Previously available only on Nakaya brand pens, John’s special Elastic customizations, in which notches are cut along the sides of the nib to increase flexibility, are now being made available by us on all Platinum brand Century pens on the Fine Soft and Medium Soft nibs only. These notches slightly trim the “3776” imprint on Platinum brand nibs - this is an aesthetic issue only and does not have any added impact on the nib’s writing qualities beyond what the Elastic customization would normally provide.

Advanced modifications for skilled users, the Elastic family of customizations also includes combination customizations of Elastic and Cursive Italic and Flex and Elastic - Flex and Elastic combines John’s usual process for adding flex to a 14k nib along with the Elastic notches, and the result is a particularly flexible (though delicate) nib. All these customizations rely on the skill of the end user to gently vary pressure on the nib while writing in order to achieve line-width variation on the page.
