Bexley Owner's Club 2008
Limited Edition Fountain Pen
The Bexley Pen Company has just unveiled its 2008 Bexley Owners Club Limited Edition.

Bexley is known for its modern interpretations of classic design themes. This model has a shape reminiscent of the Pelikan pens of the 1930s, but in a somewhat larger, easy-to-use size.

There are two versions: one with solid sterling silver overlays; the other in vermeil (23k gold plating over sterling silver). They give the pens a substantial feel, without making them too heavy.

It is a limited edition of 150 fountain pens in silver, and the same number in vermeil. Bexley buyers also have been asking for roller balls, so 50 are available in each finish. They are not numbered.
The presentation box is of modest scale and very high quality. It unfolds from the short side to reveal a satin interior with a small plaque that reads, "Bexley 15th Anniversary 1993 - 2008 Owners Club".
The precious metal overlays on the cap and barrel are a classic form of decoration with a modern look. Each panel is engraved with a biomorphic design that balances positive and negative elements. The texture also gives good grip and tactile feel to the pens. Each overlay has a hallmark of 925.
The person who created the panel designs is a former member of the team here at Classic Fountain Pens. Sarah Swen worked with us while she was a student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, so she knows pens. We're glad to be able to present her work.

The design intent of the pen is to allow the silver within the engraved lines of the pen to darken by natural oxidation, creating more contrast in the engraved pattern. This is what occurs with vintage silver and vermeil pens, giving depth and character to their engraved patterns.

If you use this pen regularly, the natural oils from your hand will inhibit tarnishing of the smooth surfaces. From time-to-time, a light polish with a jeweler's cloth will shine the smooth surfaces, while allowing the textured areas to keep the dark contrast within the engraving.

The edition number is engraved on the barrel section.

The fountain pen is available in their full range of standard nibs: fine, medium, broad, and stub (1.3 mm wide). These nibs are well suited to customizations such as extra-fine, cursive italic, formal italic and a full range of oblique cuts.

Bexley rewards their loyal customers by giving them first shot at these pens. Owners of Bexley pens, who mailed in the registration form after they purchased a pen, were recently sent a letter announcing these Limited Edition pens, with a certificate enabling them to buy one before they become available to the general public. (They were sent to addresses in the USA. International owners can send an email to Bexley to get their certificate.) If you have such a certificate, we can fill your order right away. The instructions were included with the certificate. If you own a Bexley pen, but have not sent in the registration, it is not too late. You must mail (not fax) the original registration form to Bexley, and they will quickly send your certificate. On January 31, 2008 any remaining pens will become available to the general public. The 2006 and 2007 Bexley Owners Club pens were popular and the majority (but not all) were sold before they became widely available. We expect that the same thing will happen with the 2008 version. Let us honor your certificate, or get you on the order list (which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis). Please call us at (323) 655-2641.

If you would like a particular serial number, please let us know. Of course, we cannot guarantee you will get the number that you request.
