Portable Fountain Pen
Midori (Dark Green)

If simplicity is the highest form of elegance, this is it. Nakaya pens achieve greatness by virtue of its streamlined design, excellent materials, flawless surface and saturated colors. Shown here is the Portable Cigar (No Clip) fountain pen in Midori (Dark Green).
This Nakaya fountain pen is made of Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete. Traditionally, Japanese people have admired pines or evergreens as the symbol of the vitality of plants as well as immortality. If you are familiar with the RGB color system, this pen's color is very close to R30, G92, B22.
This pen is 5 15/16" long and weighs 31 grams, without converter.
The Urushi tradition is historic and profound in Japan, where lacquer ware has adorned utilitarian objects for centuries.

This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen.

Pens which have a colored urushi lacquer finish such as "Arai-shu" and "Midori" will become even more brilliant as the urushi itself becomes more translucent with the passage of time. So the color of the pen at the time you receive it will change and improve.

This Midori green evokes for John a memory of his first sports car, a 1952 MG TD.  Even though it is half a world away the English racing green on the curved fenders of that two-seater reminds him of the Midori color.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold. Each of these nibs are suitable for our customization to extra flexible (an additional $65 charge). The medium and broad tip can be customized into cursive italic, stub or oblique points (an additional $55 for these customizations).

Below are the basic tip sizes of Nakaya nibs, as reported off of their web site (http://www.nakaya.org/eindex.html). Nakaya nibs run a little finer than most Japanese nibs, like Sailor or Pilot-Namiki.
