Emperor Carp on Waterfall

In April 2008, this pen will be discontinued by Pilot-Namiki.

This hand painted-pen captures the flow of water through a traditional landscape of rock, hanging vines and sand. The carp, a symbol of good fortune, makes its way through this natural world. A large pen at 6 13/16" capped, the barrel diameter is 11/16" where the cap diameter is 13/16". This is the pen for the person who thinks the Mont Blanc 149 is too small.

(Ed: a testimonial has been received in reference to this very pen:) "Just got home, and of course the first thing I did was open the Emperor. I had forgotten how impressive it actually was when I looked at one in New York. Your service and pricing is second to none! It's inked up and writing, and a true experience that most people wouldn't understand... Thanks again, and hope to meet you some day, Stanford"(2/13/04)

The exquisite use of different colored precious metals in powdered form, separate by brush strokes, makes this design very flowing. Note how the use of space, the dark area, adds depth to the composition.

Rock forms with hanging vines and glistening patches, which signify wetness, are separate by cloud forms, see the left of this picture. The small squares of abalone floating in gold specs at the bottom of this image, represent the foam and mist at the bottom of the falls.

This pen exhibits several different maki-e techniques, all combined into one cohesive design.

This pen is available in Medium and Broad nib sizes.

The carp swims against the current.

Each of these pens is signed by the artist with the organization on the right, "Light of the Nation" in three characters, and the artists signature, two characters on the left. The red character is a seal. The numbers, underneath the seal is very subtle. Note how the seam line for the blind cap is barely visible.

The white fold-out hard paper outer box surrounds a soft wood case, which encloses a red suede-like material which wraps the pen. Under the platform is the eyedropper which is used to fill this large-capacity writing instrument. Everything about this pen is well thought-out and complete.

This pen retails for $8,500. Our price: $6,800.00
