Over the years, we have been asked many
times to recommend a specific pen for customization, especially for italic and
flexible nibs. Having had the opportunity to work
on most models of most major brands, we have found that Pelikan pens and Pelikan
nibs consistently work well for these purposes. However, they do not offer nibs with these characteristics, which is why
many of our customers, including Mandy Young (please see our Calligraphy page), have been buying their Pelikan pens at various retail establishments and
sending them to us for alterations.
In addition to being
well-designed, well-constructed and finely finished pens, Pelikans have a feature
many of our customers find indispensable: you can usually tell how much ink is
left in the reservoir. Almost all sizes and styles of Pelikan pens have either
a transparent barrel or an ink window. When you hold the red-, green- or blue-stripe
barrels up to a light source, you can see through them and tell how much ink is
left. Other colors (black, blue, burgundy), including Toledoes, Cities Series
and Limited Editions, have ink windows. Some of the new Places Series are completely
opaque. Their piston-filled reservoirs are capacious, especially in the M800 and
M1000 sizes, and with the ability to see how much ink is in the pen, you need
never run out in the middle of an important meeting again!
Most
of these pens are shipped the same day as the order
is placed, even with customization; the next business day if ordered late.
We can now offer for sale the entire Pelikan line
with (or without) our customized nibs/tips. We find that we can provide
the Pelikan fountain pen and our nib customization service together for
less than the retail cost of the pen alone. Even if we don't customize
it, we test every one before shipping it to you, which is more than most retail
establishments can say. What good is a pen if it doesn't write well?
