Sailor Nagahara Maki-e Moonlit Forest

Rarely is there consensus on what makes a beautiful pen here at the nib workshop. The Moonlit Forest is an exception. All of us visually trained workers agree. Pat says, "gorgeous". Danielle loves its "understatement". The colors and materials combine to make an exceptional pen.

Where many pens talk loudly, this one whispers. Moonlit night-time is evoked using a limited palette of grays, silver and yellows.

This pen is a little longer than the 1911 model, at 6 1/4" capped. It has perfect balance. An ink converter is provided as well as ink cartridges.
Long slivers of abalone are inlaid into vertical grooves, representing the trunks of trees. The abalone comes as a surprise as it flickers against the matte silver surface, scarified with marks and etched with darker pigment. Light touches of yellow hold the surface together, completing the illusion of tree branches on a winter eve. The same yellow paint is used for a signature by the artist. (See above right.)
Seen here, the stock Nagahara nib, comes standard with this pen. This is the "sword" tip, capable of fine-medium writing when held more vertically and broad cross-strokes when held low.
It also is available in the complete range of hand made nibs from Sailor, as well as their high quality production nibs.

Dear Pat,
I am enjoying the Sailor 1911 w/ zoom nib and the Moonlit Forest received earlier. The zoom nib puts down a nice smooth fat line. Very fun. The Moonlit Forest is so elegantly crafted I find it hard to put down. What a beautiful pen. I like to sit and turn it in the light to see the abalone change color. Its one of those pens that you just like to have in your hand. The Togi nib is just a graceful as the pen. I thought it would be much like the zoom nib but it is much more precise, giving better control over line width, while staying still as smooth as silk. My compliments on delivering such fine instruments. Thanks again and I look forward to a continuing relationship.
