The Sho-Genkai, also known as the "Baby Genkai," is still a full-sized pen by most anyone's standards--with a closed length of 5 31/32 inches, a barrel diamter of 13/16", and a weight of 35.5, this large and elegantly simple eyedropper-filler provides an excellent canvas for both solid color and complex Maki-e finishes.
All Danitrio pens are available from us as special order items - pens already in stock with Danitrio will usually ship in one week or less.
In Tame-Nuri technique, semi-transparent amber-colored urushi is painted over a base color. As the natural urushi matures, the outer layer becomes more transparent and the underlying color shows through more brightly. Danitrio Sho-Genkai pens are available in the dark red Shu-dame color seen above, as well as in Ki-dame (Yellow), Kuro-dame (black), Midori-dame (green), and Murasaki-dame (Purple). The Sho-Genkai Tame-Nuri retails for $1400 in any of the colors listed above - our price $1120.
The Sho-genkai takes the Danitrio #8 nib, available in Fine, Medium, Broad, and stock Stub. These 18k nibs are well-suited to customizations such as Cursive Italic and Left Oblique - see our nib customizations page for more information.
Unless requested otherwise, each pen you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships. See our nib set-up and optimization page for more details.
