The natural Raden abalone shell used for the M1000 Starlight originates in the Japan Sea. During the production process, the abalone shell is flattened into thin strips which are then carefully hand-placed on the cap and barrel of the pen and sealed with traditional urushi lacquer. Gold dust is then sprinkled over the fixed abalone shell, creating the night sky effect. The pen is coated with multiple layers of Urushi lacquer and brought to a high hand polish. This is traditional work of crafts people and artists.

At the end of the production process, the Maki-e artist numbers and signs each pen. As always, Pelikan's renowned piston-fill mechanism, originally patented in 1929, allows this pen to be filled with any bottled fountain pen ink. Each pen includes documentation and includes a Japanese softwood Paulownia gift box.
We have only a very limited number of these pens available - once they are gone, there will be no more.
