Platinum Maki-e Black Tiger Limited Edition
A follow-up to the popular and now sold-out Radiant Dragon, the Platinum Century Black Tiger Limited Edition fountain pen showcases a tiger and bamboo motif in a raised Sumiko black on black technique.
Symbolically, the tiger in the bamboo forest represents living freely and boldly without restraint. Both the bamboo and tiger are thought to drive out evil spirits, and are known for their strength and resilience.
With this strong message and superb craftsmanship, the Black Tiger is sure to be coveted by collectors and pen aficionados alike. Only 300 numbered pieces are available worldwide. We have managed to secure a small number of these fountain pens - once they are gone, there will be no more.
The detailed motif is created using time-intensive Sumiko technique, in which several layers of charcoal powder are applied to give the images a raised, three-dimensional effect. Kuro roiro urushi, a natural black lacquer, is then used to highlight the eyes, mouth, and stripes of the tiger.
Both the bamboo leaves and the tiger's stripes are drawn in the same direction to simulate the effect of camouflage as the tiger stalks its prey. The ruthenium-plated clip and nib complement the stealthy appearance of the Sumiko finish.
This is a mid-size pen that will be a comfortable fit for most users. It can be filled with bottled ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.
