Taccia Tanto Hirame-Ji Water
A relatively recent arrival in the world of fountain pens, Taccia was founded in 2003 by fashion designer Shu-Jen Lin. Distinctive and unusual designs, often utilizing materials not often used in pen production, have become a hallmark of the Taccia brand. For the pen enthusiast seeking an excellent writing instrument with a twist of the unusual, Taccia will often be the choice.
Designed to resemble a Japanese samurai sword, Taccia's Tanto Limited Edition Hirame-Ji Water fountain pen is a veritable weapon in the hand for worldly writers. The Tanto sword was used as an instrument of war during the Heian period in Japan, but became more decorative and ceremonial as time progressed. Much as water acts as one of nature's gatekeepers, this fountain pen serves to preserve and protect the art of writing.
Limited to just 30 numbered pieces worldwide, the Hirame-ji Water fountain pen embraces the natural element of water. Hirame-ji is a detailed technique in which materials such as sterling silver and abalone shells are ground into a fine powder, then sprinkled on the ebonite surface and sealed with Urushi lacquer.
A decorative sterling silver pin ornament known in Japanese as a "Manuki" adorns the cap.
This is not a particularly heavy pen, but is perfect for those who prefer a full-sized writing instrument. Though the cap and body of the Tanto have a rectangular shape, the gripping section is rounded and has a smaller diameter of 0.37". This is a cartridge-converter pen which uses Sailor brand ink cartridges and converters.
Note the indigo blue finish on the barrel detail. Pieces of raden sparkle subtly like foam cresting on the moonlit ocean.
