The Nakaya desk pen in the classic Kuro-tamenuri color merges a traditional form with modern functionality. Though not a pen to carry in your pocket, this one is a remarkable desk utility. When located on your desk with the matching Kuro-tamenuri holder it serves as the quickest way to take a fast note. And it is built for long-haul writing with perfect balance and an extra long gripping section.

The Nakaya Desk pen in Kuro-tamenuri is handcrafted from ebonite hard rubber and Urushi lacquer and can be furnished with any of the standard range of Nakaya 14k nibs.
The Nakaya double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

If simplicity is the highest form of elegance, the Nakaya Desk pen in Kuro-tamenuri is it. As unadorned as this pen is, it achieves greatness by virtue of its materials, surface, and color.

The tapered barrel is elegant and in perfect proportion to the long body of the pen, achieving visual balance and rendering it ergonomic in the hand. The Nakaya Desk pen is perfect for signing documents, addressing letters, or even as an everyday writer.

Even though this pen is quite long, its base is constructed from lightweight ebonite, the oldest material used for fountain pen barrels and caps. The Kuro-tamenuri finish is a reddish-black urushi color that appears very close to black upon first glance. However, under good light conditions, the red under-layer of lacquer can be seen where the dark color ""breaks"" on the edges. As time goes by, the red color becomes more prominent as they are intended to age well and become even more colorful as the years goes by.

Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter and can also use Platinum brand top quality ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

When the Nakaya Desk pen in Kuro-tamenuri is in uncapped position, it can be displayed and used from a matching desk pen stand, which is sold separately. Together the pair creates an elegant set that looks striking on any desk at home or work.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships.
