One of the most distinctive pen models created by Nakaya, the Dorsal Fin Version 2 is created by applying multiple layers of urushi lacquer over a period of months to create the fin shape on the cap and barrel.

Kuro-tamenuri is considered by many to be the quintessential finish for Nakaya pens, and the Dorsal Fin the most distinctive and striking pen model. The two are combined here to create a memorable writing instrument.

Multiple layers of natural urushi lacquer are applied over a period of months to create the fin shapes on the cap and barrel. The pen body itself is hand-turned from ebonite stock rods harvested from the rubber gum tree. Each step in the production process is artisanal, and no two pens will ever be exactly alike. Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter and can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

The Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 2 in smooth Kuro-tamenuri finish is provided with solid gold 14k single-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone. 14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.
Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
