The beauty of the Long Cigar is its simple elegance, and the Nakaya Long Cigar Ishime Kuro-tamenuri takes the model to new heights with its unique textured stone finish. Without a clip, the Long Cigar reveals the form of the pen without encumbrance, while also highlighting its rich reddish-black color.

The Nakaya Long Cigar Ishi-me Kanshitsu Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer. It comes with solid gold 14k single-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

This Nakaya fountain pen is made of ebonite with a stone finish Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes at least three months to complete. The craftsman sows Urushi powder onto the body, which makes a lot of grains on the surface due to surface density. After it has settled, he varnishes the body with lacquer several times to make the body harden. He sharpens these grains with charcoal and finishes with Kuro-tamenuri lacquer to complete the process.

The long gripping section, also coated in the stone-finish, has a sensuous feel between the fingers. This is truly a pen that must be experienced to enjoy its tactile properties. The stone finish on this pen shows a big difference in color between the lighter color high spots and the deeper lacquer color in between. This highly controlled surface is applied to the pen in several urushi lacquer layers by master craftsmen.
Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.
Nakaya 14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

The heavy decorative rice paper, simple solid softwood shipping box and fabric pouch make a lovely presentation for Nakaya Urushi pens. Sensible and elegant packaging have long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships.
