This is the Nakaya Long Size. This pen is hand turned from solid hard rubber rod stock, then lacquered with multiple layers contrasting colored natural urushi resins.

The Nakaya Long Writer Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is a 6 1/2 "" stunner in the best recognized Kuro-tamenuri finish. One of the most popular colors, the black-red Kuro-tamenuri seamlessly saturates the entire cap and body of this extra-long fountain pen.
The gold clip warmly accents the deep Kuro-tamenuri finish. And though the Long Writer is a pen too long to fit comfortably in most shirt pockets, the clip also serves to function as a roll-stopper.

As with all hand-painted Tame-nuri pens, the colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly the same. With time, the outer dark layer will grow more transparent, allowing the red under-layer to show through more brightly.
Note the subtle color shift on the edges of this new Long Writer Kuroi-tamenuri fountain pen. Over time, more of the red color will emerge as the layers of Urushi mature through usage.

Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand ink high quality cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

The Nakaya Long Writer Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is provided with your choice of solid gold 14k single-tone nib in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, or Extra Broad, withFine Soft, Medium Soft, and Super Extra Fine nibs also available.
The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated two-tone nibs.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Nakaya pens ship in a solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script and lined with decorative rice paper. A fabric pen ""kimono"" and starter box of Platinum brand cartridges are also included, making this pen a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships.
