In the Japanese language the word ""Araishu"" combines ""shu,"" meaning red, and ""arai,"" for laundry. The meaning of the combined word suggests a red that has been washed to the extent that it is now a pale red or orange. The acceptance of a quality that comes with the passage of time is a hallmark of Japanese culture. In this case, the result is the bright orange Nakaya Neo Standard in Araishu, a slightly longer pen with an extend and very comfortable finger gripping section.

The response to this new design has been highly enthusiastic. One of our customers says, ""This is the best shape that Nakaya has ever made.""

Notice the long tapered tail of the barrel and how this shape continues toward the front of the pen as well, down to the flange of the gripping section. The section offers a comfortable grip for the fingers. There is no need to post this cap. It only comes as a Writer, with a clip.

The richness in this orange color is only achievable with the application of many layers of urushi lacquer.

The Neo Standard only comes in the Writer model with a clip, which allows the pen to be easily affixed to a shirt pocket. Here warm gold plating on the clip complements the orange finish.
The Nakaya Neo Standard Araishu fountain pen is available with your choice of solid gold 14k single-tone nib in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, or Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, and Super Extra Fine nibs also available.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex. The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone - consult our Nakaya Nibs page for details.
Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships. See our nib set-up and optimization page for more details.
Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter and can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.
