Shu (red) is the brightest color that Nakaya offers. Made up of many layers of red pigmented urushi lacquer, it is no wonder that it shows so brightly. Each layer is applied to the surface, allowed to dry and then is polished before the next is applied. The combination of red, a traditional pen color since the 1920's, with this subtle shape creates a design that begs to be held.

This Neo Standard model is available with a range of clip and nib plating colors including the yellow gold seen here.

This subtle and considered shape is hand crafted from solid hard rubber. Notice the long tapered tale of the barrel and how this shape continues toward the front of the pen as well, down to the flange of the gripping section. A favorite of calligraphers and people who write a great deal, the long gripping section offers a comfortable grip for the fingers. The barrel also fits perfectly at the back of the hand and into the web between thumb and first finger. There is no need to post this cap.
The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold.
Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible. The larger tip nibs can be customized by us into architect's point, cursive italic, stub or oblique angles.

Note that Nakaya nibs run finer than Western nibs of the same named size.
The heavy decorative rice paper, simple solid softwood shipping box and fabric pouch make a lovely presentation for Nakaya Urushi pens. Sensible and elegant packaging have been a hallmark of Nakaya.
