Nakaya Piccolo Cigar pens are available in a range of colors. Hand turned from solid hard rubber rod stock, they are then lacquered with multiple layers of natural resins.

Sensible and elegant packaging have been a hallmark of Nakaya. All Nakaya pens come packaged in handcrafted finery, as painstakingly constructed as the pens they protect. The heavy decorative rice paper, simple solid softwood shipping box and fabric pouch make a lovely presentation for Nakaya Urushi pens.

The Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Araishu fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with solid gold 14k single-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

Rich in color and compact in shape, the Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Araishu fountain pen is an understated yet elegant writing instrument. The Japanese term Araishu translates from "arai" to "laundry" and from "shu" to "red". This combination suggests a red that has been washed to the extent that it is not a true red but is instead faded a bit to incorporate more of an orange-red hue. Araishu signifies the Japanese ideal of embracing the passage of time.

The Urushi tradition is historic and profound in Japan, where lacquer ware has adorned utilitarian objects for centuries. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pens its deep lustrous sheen and powerful color. As with all hand-made pens, colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly alike.

The Nakaya Piccolo Cigar can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

This is a more compact fountain pen than the Naka-ai or Neo Standard, yet will fit comfortably in most hands.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships.
