The hairline finish on the Piccolo Writer (with clip) absorbs light creating a soft smooth surface. Seen here with the ruthenium (smokey silver) plated clip and nib, the effect is a writing instrument with quiet elegance.
The Nakaya Piccolo Writer Matte Black Hairline fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with your choice of solid gold 14k single-tone nib in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, or Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, and Super Extra Fine nibs also available.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone - consult our Nakaya Nibs page for details.

Seen here with ruthenium plated clip and nib, the Nakaya Piccolo Writer in Matte Black Hairline is a study in subtlety. The black hairline surface reflects light not as black but as a soft luster gray.
At a closed length of 5.1"", the Piccolo is a more compact pen, easy to fit into a shorter pocket. It maintains excellent balance in the hand, with a well-distributed weight of 23.5 grams. With its compact shape and velvety surface, the Piccolo Writer Matte Black Hairline is both modern and sophisticated.

What makes this pen so special is the quiet authority that this material conveys. It is durable and not flashy while revealing the elegant tapered Piccolo shape.
Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter and can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex - see our nib customizations page for more information.
Although the full range of Nakaya nibs is made available, the ruthenium-plated nib pictured here complements the sleek, stealthy matte black finish.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer. Consult our Nakaya Availability Chart, updated weekly, to see which pens we currently have in stock and available for immediate shipment, or simply to browse for pens by finish or motif.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships. See our nib set-up and optimization page for more details.
