These pens are available in a range of colors. They are available with or without a clip at no additional charge. Hand turned from solid hard rubber rod stock, they are then lacquered with multiple layers of natural resins. For a closer look at these handcrafted fountain pens, click on your color preference below.

The Nakaya Piccolo Writer Midori fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with your choice of solid gold 14k single-tone nib in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, or Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, and Super Extra Fine nibs also available.

Coated in many layers of Urushi resin, this writing instrument is enrobed in a rich, lush dark green finish. This simple elegant shape, with its turned tapered pyramidal cap and smooth transition between the cap and barrel, is an exercise in spare design. Traditionally, Japanese people have admired pines or evergreens as the symbol of the vitality of plants as well as immortality. Over time the Urushi lacquer will become even more vibrant and bright, though it is initially quite deep in color.

The Nakaya Piccolo Writer can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

At a closed length of 5.12"" and a weight of 22 grams, this is a more compact fountain pen than the Naka-ai or Neo Standard, yet will fit comfortably in most hands without posting the cap. Light reflects and refracts off of the surface of the softly coned end caps.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex - see our nib customizations page for more information.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer. Consult our Nakaya Availability Chart, updated weekly, to see which pens we currently have in stock and available for immediate shipment, or simply to browse for pens by finish or motif.
Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships. See our nib set-up and optimization page for more details.
