A color very close to this was first seen in the hard rubber Parker Duofold pens of the 1920's. Fortunately today we can have this color in a Nakaya Portable Writer in a durable urushi lacquer finish made to exacting standards that only are available from Japan.

The ""writer"" model is practical model for those who like to carry a pen in their pocket.

Araishu in Japanese translates from ""shu"" for red and ""arai"" for laundry. The meaning of the combined word suggests a red that has been washed to the extent that it is no longer red. It is now an pale red, meaning orange. The acceptance of a quality that comes with time and usage is a hallmark of Japanese language. In this case when we embrace the passage of time and have araishu.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen ""kimono"" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
